Moi in 30 Days

One of my favorite bloggers, Hope, is doing this '30 Days of Me' thing. I've seen it on other blogs, but I thought you had to do it in a certain month! Apparently no, so now I've decided to do it. :) Starting tomorrow, ya'll will learn a ton about me. I might even learn something about myself!
So here are the questions, which I will try my best to answer.

It's just been one of those days

So, it's Wednesdays again! Which means back to classes and such.

This year sees me taking French I, Physical Science, and Advanced Public Speaking at my co-op.
All is going well so far, though Physical Science is not as fun as Biology was! Although, this module we're learning about ear, which is pretty interesting.

Anyway, this post is mostly just a random, I-felt-like-writing-something post. Oh, and to ask for prayers for my best friend, Emily. She broke her arm doing a gymnastics move. Fortunately it is not her writing hand, so she can still do school. =D Please pray that her arms heals correctly, and that she is without pain!



Well, I suppose that's it for now. Oh wait, here is a picture to brighten your day:

I would pick Pride and Prejudice, and I would be Elizabeth. According to the quiz, that's who I am! And I love how spunky and down-to-earth she is.

3. What is your theme song, that favorite song that absolutely matches you?

Well, 'By Your Side' is my lifesong, but my theme song is probably 'Set the World on Fire' by Britt Nicole

4. You are trapped on a deserted island. Your only supplies are the clothes you have on, and a box with five things in it. What are those five things?

Food, water, Bible, computer (there better be electricity!), iPod

5. Chocolate or Caramel?

Definitely chocolate. I can't eat caramel with my braces!! And chocolate powns caramel any day. ;)

6. Vacation! If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

*sighs* Ah, there are so many-----probably Ireland though. England would be a close second, with Germany third. And Hawaii is fourth.

7. If forced to do one of the two, which would you do: sky diving or scuba diving? Why?

I've always wanted to go scuba diving. It just seems safer than sky diving. Besides, you don't have to go extremely deep! Whereas with sky diving, you don't really have a choice of how high upyou go.

8. Favorite TV show, and why?

My favorite 'old' TV show (sorry Mom!) is LIttle House on the Prairie. My current favorite is White Collar. It's such a funny, witty show! And the plots are always great.

9. Are you a coffee and donuts sorta lady, or a tea and scones type of gal?

Hmm.......I love donuts, hate coffee, like tea, and like scones. Uh-------can I choose cider and donuts? Thanks. =D

10.The time machine has finally been created, and you are the first to be able to use it! What era would you travel too?

Definitely the 1940's. I would love to see my grandparents at my age!!!

11. What is the last movie you watched?

Gahh, I have no idea. Oh wait, Little Women. The one with June Alyson. Just as a side note: That movie is kind of depressing!!! And Elizabeth Taylor should not have played Amy. She's a brunette, for crying out loud!

12. Ding-dong!!! Your favorite actor/singer/celebrity is at your front door! Who would it be?

Is that too many? No? Okay, great.

13. What was your absolute favorite toy as a baby?

My stuffed spaniel dog, Pepper. My cousin Tara gave him to me when I was three. I love him soooooooo much!!

14. What types of blogs do your like best? (examples: DIY, cooking, journal, ect.)

I like a good mixture of all these things, along with quotes and pictures. Oh, and fun get-to-know-you things like this.

15. What is your favorite Bible verse, your "life verse?"

I have two: James 1:19-20: My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyoen should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

And

 Psalm 119:9-11: How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin agaisnt you.

I know I said I would show you all the remaining pictures from Awakening Fest, but.....................I had forgotten about my MRI this morning. So, instead, I'm going to ask you all to pray that the test goes well and that nothing is wrong up in my attic. ;)

Singing praises to our King

Soooo-----this past weekend was Awakening Fest! Such an awesome festival with Christian artists and bands. And this year they extended it to TWO WHOLE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-catches breath-

Okay, I'm good now. But it was seriously awesome!!!!!!

This is the first year my whole family has gone together. Back in 2008, just me, Dad, and Owen went. Then last year, I went with some friends. But it rained, so we didn't get to see anyone perform except Disciple. Not that they're bad! It was just really wet and I don't know any of their songs..........so yeah. Moving on to this year!

Mom and I bought tickets for both days, while Dad and the boys just got them for the first night. The lineup for Friday was Fireflight, Kutless, and Third Day. Talk about awesomeness!!!

We had seen Third Day and Fireflight at Winter Jam, so we were super stoked to be seeing them again! And I'm a fan of Kutless, so having them be there too was sweet.

That night was awesome. Fireflight rocked it out, Kutless did some good jams, and Third Day------I almost don't have words to describe this band. Their songs have had such an impact on my family. Mom's favorite is 'Born Again,' where Mac Powell sings the song accompanied by a female singer. The recorded song has Lacy Mosely from Flyleaf, but for WinterJam and Awakening Fest, Third Day used Dawn from Fireflight!!!! That girl has some serious vocals, and adds so much to the song! I wish they had recorded it with her. :)

So, here are some pictures from Friday night! I didn't take that many because 1. I was too busy singing 2. We were pretty far away from the stage for 'good' pictures and 3. The lighting was really bad.

Oh yeah, and did I mentioned the music was amazing?

Eh, I have to hit the sack. I'll finish this post tomorrow though!

Counting down the days......

We will never forget..........................9/11

September 11, 2001, seems like a long time ago, doesn't it?

For me, it seems like eons ago. I was five, and the world seemed like a big place.

Then September 11 came, and the world became a big, scary place.

I don't really remember the actual day of September 11. More the aftermath, as stories, pictures, and words filled my mind.
I remember my mom and aunt standing at the kitchen counter, looking at a magazine. My head just reached above the counter, and I tried to see what they were looking at. Mom pushed the magazine from my view and told me to go play.
I remember watching the news with my mom, and seeing flashbacks of the planes crashing in to the Twin Towers. I still did not understand what was happening, other than it was bad and it made people scared.
I remember my friend's dad worked at the Pentagon, but for some reason he did not go that Tuesday. Many prayers of thankfulness were said because of God's providence.
I remember my dad coming home and telling us how he could see the smoke of the Pentagon from his office window in D.C.

I remember all of this, with a five-year old's mind. Looking back, I think How could something like this happen? How could God, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, let this tragedy happen? Why did He let this happen?

Last year, I wrote this in my journal:

9/11/2009
Today marks the eight year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I don't remember much, since I was only five. But for eight years I've heard stories and seen tapes. For eight years, I've heard of acts of bravery and selflessness. For eight years, I've wondered how people could be so evil, so without God. I've even wondered how God could let this happen to America! But I know everything has its purpose, even the deaths of 3,000 people. It can be hard to trust in God sometimes. But no matter what, you jsut have to trust. Just keep trusting in Him.

We don't have these answers, and we never will. Only God knows why things happen.

For us, all we can do is pray without ceasing, and remember those innocent lives that were lost nine years ago. We can also, even though it is hard, try to forgive the terrorists who died alongside our countrymen.

God bless all the men and women who put themselves in harms way that Tuesday, and God bless all the people who have given their lives the past nine years in the continuing fight against terrorism.

My lesson for the week: I have many:
1. If you go to the beach in your capris, and don't expect to get wet-----YOU WILL ANYWAY.
2. If your mom tells you to change from your capris in to your bathing suit, you should probably listen to her.
3. If you're in the ocean, and a huge wave comes, be on alert: another one is probably close behind.
4. Wearing flipflops with sand in between your toes is not a fun experience.
5. Gelato is delicious =)

(12) What's one embarrassing thing that has happened to you? Last year, my friend and I were going to Compostition II from Biology. I thought Comp I was still going on, so we stayed in the hallway for like 10 minutes, talking and eating our snacks. Then, I peeked in and realized everyone was staring at me! We went in and our teacher said, "Well, I thought you'd never join us!" That was pretty embarrassing. ;)

To react, or to love?

I'm sure most of you know about the Florida church's plan to burn the Koran on Saturday. Both Liberals and Conservatives are talking about it, and it has become a national headline.

The pastor of this church, Terry Jones,  said, "We feel it's maybe the right time for America to stand up. How long are we going to bow down? How long are we going to be controlled by the terrorists, by radical Islam?"

The point he's trying to make is a good one, but I do not believe he is doing it in the right fashion. God does not call us to disgrace other religion!

General David Petraeus said last week that if images of people burning the Koran leak out to Muslim nations, our troops and civilians in their countries could be in danger. "Images of the burning of a Koran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan -- and around the world -- to inflame public opinion and incite violence," Petraeus said. "Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult."

I wouldn't care so much if the burning of the Koran was harmless, but if General Petraeus thinks our troops could be in danger because of it-----that strikes closer to home.
As most of you know, my cousin Ryan was in Afghanistan just a few months ago. If he was still in Afghanistan on September 11, he could very well be in danger because of this pastor's act.

And just because my cousin is safe doesn't mean all our brave soldiers are! We still have thousands of men and women in Afghanistan, fighting terrorism.

Jones said he and members of his church are taking seriously several death threats directed at them, but if something happened, it would not be their fault.
"We will not be responsible," Jones said. "We are only reacting to the violence that is already there in that religion."

Wait..................a pastor who is reacting to violence? Where in the Bible does God say to react to violence? Doesn't God say to turn the other cheek?
I'm confused.

Tenth Avenue North's lead singer Mike Donehey tweeted this morning, "Dear anyone who isn't a Christian & thinks Koran Burner is: I John 4:8 "Anyone who does not love does not know God because God is love"

I think Mike has a good point here: If you call yourself a Christian, but do not love, you obviously can't know God.

God is love! He tells us to love our neighbor; even love our enemy! This pastor missed God's Word on this situation entirely. Does the Bible say that if some radical terrorists fly planes in to buildings and kill 3,000 people, we can burn their Koran?

This pastor might not realize how much this act means to Muslims. All I know is, people should not think that all Christians believe the same way this pastor does about Muslims.

Super sweet vs. positive influence

Back in April, I wrote a post about my dream of being a teacher at an international Christian school. At the time, I was positive that I would someday teach third grade.

Now, just to show you that nothing is certain in life (except death and taxes), I have found that I might want to teach high school English!!!

That's quite a big leap, from third grade to high school! But for the past month or so, I've felt an urge to minister to teenagers.

I talked to my mom about how I was thinking of becoming a high school English teacher. She was a little surprised----ever since I wanted to become a teacher, I've said that I would teach third grade. But then she pointed out that the teachers who made the most influence on her life were her high school ones. She remembered her elementary school teachers with fondness, but they never made a big influence on her life. It is the people who are there during the critical points in a person's life that really leave a mark.

Even though I'm still in school, my teachers have already made a difference in my life. I know that I will always remember and treasure the things they have taught me, not just about academics, but about being a person of integrity and character.
These women have made a big impact on me, and are part of why I am interested in also teaching teenagers.

I've always wanted to make a difference in someone's life. If I was a third grade teacher, the kids I teach might think back someday and say, "Wow, she was a super sweet and kind teacher."
But if I decided to become a high school teacher, one of my students might say, "She really made a positive influence on my life."

I think the latter is what God would prefer. Sure, there is always a need for third grade teachers. Some people aren't cut out for trying to get teenagers to write well and understand Shakespeare. I don't know if I would be that patient, but I like to think I would be!

I've also said that I want to teach at a Christian school. No exceptions.
But after attending the WorldViews camp, my mindset of being in the 'safe' environment of a Christian school  has changed. In his last lecture, Bill Jacks said, "Take what is common to your culture and make it into a pulpit." He also said that, "public schools are the generating stations of values."

Being a public school teacher would definitely be hard. The curriculum the system gives me would most likely not be something I would choose myself, but I'm not afraid to add my own Christian influence to it. I might be shunned by the other teachers because I'm a Christian. But the Bible says to be a light in the darkness, and it seems to me that public high schools these days are pretty dark.


So there's my new focus on what I want to be someday.

On Monday, my family leaves for Bethany Beach! We'll only be gone for two days, but I can't wait! We aren't really a beachy kind of family----our vacations usually consist of a historic location or Disney World. But we really do like the ocean!
