so, one summer morning....

I'm going to pack a small bag with a few clothes, my journal and camera, Anne of the Island, and buy a plane ticket to Rome. I'll leave a note on the counter for my family, telling them I'm off to have an adventure.

I suppose the trip to Rome will be long, but I'll have my book to pass the time. And don't forget people-watching! One of the best things to do when you're bored. Then I'll dream about all the things I'll do in Rome.

Once I land, I'll find a map of the Eternal City, just in case I get uber lost. I'll only consult it in the gravest of circumstances, of course, for an adventure isn't the same if you don't get a little lost. And if I did wind up going down a street I hadn't noticed, I'm sure there will be some sort of cafe or other shop where I can grab a bite to eat. I'll be a typical tourist and buy some pizza, completely and utterly Italian style. It will be delicious, and even if it isn't, I'll scarf it down. After all, it is Italian pizza.

I'll keep wandering until my feet get tired. Then, somehow, I'll find a place that rents those cute little motor-scooters. I'd prefer if it were of a baby-blue shade, but cream or spring green would work just fine. I'll snap on the helmet, ask the attendant how to go forward and brake {hopefully he'll speak English} and then I'll be off.

I'll drive past the Colosseum, but I don't think I'll go inside. I may take some pictures of the outside, but I'll leave the tours for another day.Instead, I shall keep on driving until I run out of gas, or decide that my hair cannot take the helmet-head indentation anymore. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. *wink wink*

I'll return the scooter, then ask where the attendants favorite dessert shop is. Assuming he speaks English, he'll understand that I'm {of course} talking about gelato. I'll walk in and see a case filled with all different flavors of yummy goodness. The decision of what to choose will be hard, but I'll probably end up going with chocolate. Can't mess with a classic, right?

As I sit out in front of the shop {most likely located on a cute little street} I'll see him walking toward me. I don't think he'll be Italian; maybe English, Irish, or even a boy from back home. He could even end up being someone I have my eye on now---but I'll leave that all in God's hands. Whomever he is, he'll wait for me to finish my gelato and then we'll go walking around. By this time the sun will be setting, and the air will have that lovely tinge that most summer evenings have. He'll let me loop my arm through his, like any gentleman would, and we'll take those typical pictures that 'couples' take. But for us, it'll be as special friends.

Then the stars will start coming out, and we'll end our day in Rome by dancing. Whether it's at a formal gathering with a band, or just the two of us waltzing in the street to soft music coming from a nearby shop, we will dance.

And then it shall be over. The guy will drive me back to the airport, and see me off. Before we say good-bye, I'll make him promise to be home before summer ends, so we can recount our lovely time in Rome. I'll board the plane as he waves goodbye, content and happy with an unforgettable day that could only happen in the movies.

'cause who wouldn't want to be Audrey Hepburn for a day, and fall in love with Gregory Peck?

This is my favorite old movie! Rome seems like a lovely place to spend the Summer. :-)
