One of the best things about camp was in between lectures, when the music would blare and everyone would be singing and moving to the music.
The counselors chose mostly well-known, like Switchfoot and Newsboys, but there were some others too----including Relient K.
Before camp, I really only knew 'The Best Thing' by them, but now I'm a total fan! Thanks to Katelyn, who would sing at the top of her lungs and play an air guitar, and the counselors, who played 'Sadie Hawkins Dance' over and over, I'm hooked on Relient K.
In case you haven't heard this fabulous song, here are the lyrics.
All the girls in the bathroom talking
who they gonna take to the Sadie Hawkins
My ears are burning but I kept on walking
smile on my face and an air guitar rocking
The Sadie Hawkins Dance
in my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
it's always a surprise
There's nothing better
baby do you like my sweater?
Sitting in the back of my next class napping
Got up, gave a speech, then bowed to the clapping
Told a funny joke got the whole class laughing
think I got a tan from the light which I was basking
The Sadie Hawkins Dance
in my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
it's always a surprise
There's nothing better
baby do you like my sweater?
Scan the cafeteria for some good seating
I found a good spot by the cheerleaders eating
The quarterback asked me if I'd like a beating
I said that's one thing I won't be needing
And since I'm rather smart and cunning
I took off down the next hall running
Only to get stopped by a girl so stunning
only to get stopped by a girl so stunning
She said, "You're smooth, and good with talking. You're going with me to the Sadie Hawkins
The Sadie Hawkins Dance
in my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
it's always a surprise
There's nothing better
baby do you like my sweater?
Don't ya just love it??? I only heard it one time before I was jamming along with the other Relient K fans.
The awesome thing was that since everyone knew all the songs that were being played, you could dance or sing along and not feel silly! I don't exactly have the best singing voice, but it didn't matter: we were all singing together to glorify God.
Another super fun thing was the Ultimate Frisbee game between the counselors and campers. I didn't play (not so good with the hand-eye coordination thing) but I cheered and took pictures of Katelyn. Even though we got beat (11-6) everyone played great! I honestly had no idea Frisbee could be so much fun! Next year I will definitely be playing. :)
Also, the presentation of the Spamley Cup. I can't exactly describe it, other than it was hilarious, crazy, and downright original. Our small group laughed so hard when Emily Rae came out!!!! Her hair as a beard.........NEVER WILL I FORGET THAT!!!!
And then there were our t-times! All the girls in my group were fantastic, and we all agreed that Emily Rae was the best small-group-leader ever! She kept things funny and interesting. I think by the end of the week we were pretty sick of Starbursts, but they were yummy! And our stargazing-turned-to-talking-time was a memory I won't forget. I felt so close to everyone that night......amazing.
I'm glad I have pictures to remember that awesome week----along with songs!
Ciao,
