I am traumatized.
Many of you know I have been dealing with an eye problem for several months now. Well, yesterday was the appointment with my eye doctor. He realized that the slight bump on my eye lid is actually a mollascum contagiosum (in other words, a viral infection under the skin). He concluded that my eye infection was caused by this mollascum!!!!! All this time, the bump we thought was a stye, was actually causing my infection!!!! Because of this, I have been forced to wear only one contact (in my right eye) since December. Ugh.
So today we went to an eye surgeon. Actually, it was Owen's appointment, (he had eye surgery six years ago and goes to a specialist) but the doctor was kind enough to take a look at my eye. He made a few noises, then said he could treat it right away.
I should have known I was in trouble.
He said that he could (right there) take a needle, poke the mollascum, and irritate a bit so it would eventually fall off and disappear.
Gross.
I was a bit shaken by the whole needle-close-to-my-eye thing, but Mom was eager for him to do it right there. I did want this thing gone, but I wasn't sure if I was willing to have a needle stuck in my eye for it.
So the doctor went off to get the 'instruments' while I sat in the chair, worrying about what was to come (if you know me well enough, you'll know I'm a huge worrier. I get it from my great-grandfather, apparently). When he came back, I was prepared for the worst.
It actually wasn't going to be that scary. The doctor put some numbing agent on my eyelid (thank goodness!) then sterilized it with some alcohol. In a few moments I couldn't feel the right side of my eye (and it was a really weird feeling, let me tell you).
Then: the needle. I hate hate hate needles period, so I wasn't too excited about having one in my eye. Of course, I was a little preoccupied with the needle to realize that it wasn't going in my eye: It was going on the eyelid, and inside the mollascum. And with the numbing agent, it wasn't supposed to hurt.
So the doctor sets me up. He said I could gently close my eye (good thing too, or I might have passed out) and then he went to work. It felt weird, but it didn't exactly hurt. More of just a poking sensation, kind of like getting a shot (but not a tetanus one; those do hurt). Then just like that it was over. The doctor turned on the lights and put more alcohol on the now open mollascum. I bled a little bit, which he said was good. Then it was time to go. My eye was red from the blood, and the mollascum looked really gross, but it didn't hurt.
And then we got milkshakes. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
My eye feels much better. It is back from feeling numb, and hopefully this infection will be gone in a few weeks!
Thanks for all of you who have been praying for me. I really appreciate it.
Now I'm going to my mirror and stare at my eye for the remainder of the night, waiting for the mollascum to fall off. ttyl!
ps--I was kidding, I'm going to eat dinner. =)
